'Your Future': Lower Sixth students do one-to-one mock job interviews

Susan Ostrander of King’s High’s ‘Futures’ Department writes: ‘King's High strives to make sure that our students have the edge in this fast paced and rapidly changing world. As part of our Lower Sixth 'Your Future' Careers Education programme, students have been doing one-to-one mock job interviews.  These were led by Claire Jenkins, Senior Visiting Lecturer for Interview Skills at Worcester University,  and the University of Wolverhampton. Claire’s interview tips include: ‘Use ‘I’ instead of ‘We’, and say it aloud - often those interviewing haven’t read your application or anything about you because someone else did the shortlisting. Behave as if they know nothing about you and… if you don’t say it out loud – you won’t get that tick on the scoresheet!'.  Students have been thinking about their employability skills and how they can best communicate these to potential employers, and preparing for interviews.’
