Pupils Take Part in Conducting Workshop with Rebecca Miller

Last week, a group of our pupils, alongside pupils from Warwick School and The Kingsley School, had the brilliant experience of taking part in a workshop with conductor Rebecca Miller.

The workshop took place in the King’s High Auditorium on the Foundation’s Warwick site, and was split into four sessions throughout the day. Rebecca worked closely with the pupils to help develop their conducting knowledge and skills; covering a range of conducting topics and practicing things such as technique and rhythm, as well as having the opportunity to discuss and ask questions.

Rebecca’s involvement in the workshop also allowed her to share tips she has learned during her experience as a conductor - resulting from a career that has seen her guest conduct for the likes of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as currently being Principal Conductor of the Bishop's Stortford Sinfonia, Principal Conductor of the Royal Orchestral Society, and Director of Orchestras at Royal Holloway University.

First-hand conducting experience is hard to come by, and we are truly grateful for Rebecca’s involvement – all of the students involved thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the chance to work so closely with an experienced conductor and truly passionate advocate of developing young people in the orchestral space.
