A Community of Changemakers
Changemaker (noun):
A person who actively seeks to make a positive difference in the world; someone who takes creative action to solve a social problem.
We talk a lot about being a changemaker at King's High.
But what does that really mean? What exactly is a changemaker?
The dictionary definition tells us it’s someone who makes a meaningful difference. And that sums up the spirit of King's rather well.
From the moment you step into Reception, you’re met with our Changemaker Wall – a proud celebration of women from across history and from all corners of the globe. Different walks of life, different eras, different stories – but with one shared thread: they are all changemakers. Chosen by our students themselves, each woman featured – whether etched into the pages of history or quietly unsung – has made a tremendous impact on the world.
And amongst the gallery, you’ll find a mirror – a reflective, powerful reminder that our students are not just learning about changemakers. They are becoming them. They are, indeed, the changemakers of the future.
At King's, we believe every student is empowered to become her own kind of changemaker – forging her own path, in her own unique way. There’s no one-size-fits-all model here. Being a changemaker is as individual as each of our students.
It might be through helping others – many of our students bring light into the lives of those most in need through their selfless volunteering, kindness, and compassion.
Or it could be through standing up for what they know to be right – being an upstander, challenging a situation and showing courage and conviction when others may simply stand by unheard.
And sometimes it involves shaping the future – using their voice and values to lead change for future generations.
However you define changemaking, it's not just a word. It lives and breathes here. It’s palpable.
At King’s, every girl is encouraged to believe she can make a difference in the world.
And, perhaps more importantly, she does just that.
